Demand for land across Melbourne’s growth areas continues to show no signs of slowing, with the final land release for 2016 at Merrifield selling out in just one hour.

For the second time this month, more than 10 people slept overnight in their cars, while others queued patiently from the early hours of Saturday morning to ensure they secured their dream block of land.

Merrifield Project Director Matthew Planner said the result demonstrates the strength of the market and the significant appeal of Merrifield, the pre-eminent master planned community in the north.

“Merrifield remains the highest selling new project in the northern growth corridor,” said Mr Planner. “Clearly, our purchasers are impressed by, not only the vision we have for Merrifield, but the quality of what we are already delivering on the ground.

The impressive sales result was experienced at developments right across Melbourne, with project marketing group Oliver Hume achieving their highest sales result last weekend in the company’s 60 year history.

Oliver Hume Project Director Gerrard Ellis said that results were outstanding.

“To see these new land releases and sales numbers come through so close to the Christmas break, shows just how buoyant the market is within all growth corridors,” said Mr Ellis. “There is huge demand for residential land across the State and we expect this trend to continue well into the New Year.”

Mr Planner added that purchasers over the weekend were diverse. “We are seeing first and second home buyers, investors and even interest from interstate buyers seeking to relocate,” Mr Planner said. “This illustrates a great sense of confidence in Merrifield as a community and as an investment.”

Merrifield will launch its first land release for 2017 in early February, offering in excess of 50 lots up to 658sqm.
