In the report prepared by the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research, Merrifield has been indentified as one of the key strategic transport assets which will continue to drive economic development within Melbourne’s North.
Merrifield Corporation General Manager, David Hall said, “the findings of the report confirmed the company’s continuing confidence in Melbourne’s North which will accommodate well in excess of 25 per cent of Melbourne’s population growth.
“The report confirmed the strengths of the region which are now being recognised throughout the property sector including; access to education, medical research, opportunities for the transport and logistics sector, the proposed Melbourne Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market and superior transport infrastructure.”
“The strategic transport assets of Melbourne’s North will support the future success of Merrifield and include the Melbourne Airport, Hume Freeway, proposed Outer Metropolitan Ring and proposed Interstate Freight Terminal to be located in Beveridge,” said Mr. Hall.
The report confirms that Merrifield, an $8 billion development in Hume, will become Victoria’s largest fully master-planned and integrated business and employment hub. At more than 1.5 times the size of the Melbourne CBD, Merrifield is poised to become the State’s new heartland of business activity. With over 400 hectares of land within the business and employment precinct, Merrifield will accommodate a broad range of business operators and has the potential to create in excess of 20,000 jobs.
